Charbel-Raphaël Segerie has been elected to the Council of the International Association for Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (IASEAI), for a four-year term on the Education Committee.
The election comes as CeSIA publishes its own review of the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, which examined all 1,534 submissions to the process. Two findings stood out: safety was the leading theme, selected by 73% of contributors, and capacity-building was the leading measure proposed, at 58%. But the capacity to build and adopt AI is not the same as the capacity to evaluate and govern it, and the latter arguably remains far scarcer.
Charbel has worked directly on that gap for four years, through ML4Good, an AI safety bootcamp programme he founded that has since run more than 20 sessions across 10 countries, and one of the first university-accredited AI safety courses in the EU, established before ChatGPT existed. Of roughly 400 alumni, about 150 now work at institutions including the EU AI Office, MATS, and the UK AISI.
On the Council, the objective is the one CeSIA has pursued from the outset: place trained practitioners in institutions able to act on AI safety, and build shared understanding across communities that still publish and convene separately.
